Hello! I am an evolutionary anthropology graduate student in Southern California and an aspiring university professor. I was first introduced to work in the Sonoran Desert in 2022 with the Comcaac. As my parents are from Mexico, I chose to focus my thesis on both sides of the border, examining the transmission of indigenous knowledge and preservation efforts. Over the past three years, I’ve learned from the wonderful members of the Comcaac, with whom I’m fortunate to know and spend time. I was introduced to this network by Abe Sanchez, Mike Gray, and Damien Torres, who have participated in the Summit and encouraged me to reach out since I’m starting in the field and would like to grow with like-minded individuals. With their decades old connection to communities in the Sonoran Desert, they have began mentoring me as I continue this journey.
