About

Through video installations, sound, and photography, I create works that are a meeting of the imaginary and the real, exploring ideas of deep time, interspecies connection, and future ecologies. My work is informed by my upbringing in the Sonoran borderlands, where environmental and political tensions are inextricably intertwined. The installations I create are a blend of narrative world-building and site-specific documentation. I deploy the use of various digital and analog processes to execute these ideas; hi-8 infrared analog video with its ability to reveal emanant life beyond the eye’s capacity; early video effects that function with simplicity to ethereally manipulate wavelengths of light; large scale, cinematic projections that allow viewers to be immersed and transported. Sound is an essential component to my work and I compose scores that incorporate my own site-specific field recordings. I am interested in offering alternate visions for how to live, through both literal and metaphysical representations of reality. The inspiration for making my work often emerges from a feeling of grief and loss, but the outcome of the pieces translate that feeling into action and potential.
