About

I began adventuring in Sonora, MX, and met the Seri/Comcaac community as a prescott college student (1985). I hold degrees in both photojournalism and Outdoor Education and Recreation. I have visited and lived amongst the Comcaac community for nearly four decades while learning traditional culture and ecological knowledge of this indigenous community. In 2007 I began a community wide multimedia cultural rescue, called the Comcaac Project; recording songs & oral literatures and including video and documentary photography. My photo library now spans 38 years of exploring the desert and beaches with Seri women. Photographic print portfolios and my extensive song archive (1150+ songs) have been curated by the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress EEUU. I also received three years of Fellowship in the collection of Oral Literatures with the Firebird Foundation which helped fund the tri-lingual transcriptions and translations of the audio, all recorded in Seri language. I currently have self-published six books (on the seri) to date, including publishing the first multimedia book in the endangered language isolate of Cmiique Iitom/seri, as well as other tri-lingual publications.
