About

My name is Tram Nguyen and I’m the After-School Programs Coordinator at Ocean Discovery Institute. Ocean Discovery Institute is a San Diego based organization that uses science to empower young people from urban and diverse backgrounds to transform their lives, their community, and ultimately our world as scientific and environmental leaders. I participated as a student in Ocean Discovery Institute’s intensive, research program in 2004. Through this program I explored island and wetland ecosystems and discovered my passion for science and conservation. I went to college, graduated from UC Berkeley, and now work at Ocean Discovery Institute, leading high school students in wetland research through our program in Baja California, Mexico. The primary goal of the wetland research is to better understand how the wetlands of Bahía de Los Angeles are changing over time. All of my research experiences have been focused in the Gulf of California and I look forward to expanding that knowledge to learn from others who are doing research in areas nearby, such as mainland Sonoran Desert, and in other areas along the Baja California peninsula, the Gulf of California and its desert islands.
