Researchers

I have worked in three regions. The first and the one that has embraced almost all my work in the region is the Seri territory. Where I started mainly conducting ethno-ornithology studies and developing community conservation (bird monitoring) programs, biocultural initiatives and indigenous exchanges and lately, participatory video. In this year (2015) I´ll be collaborating with a Yaqui NGO and Insight Share (NGO from England) on a project to train Seri, Yaqui and Mayo as participatory video facilitators which will spread the use of video within and outside their communities. Despite my initial intervention in the region where more biology oriented, at this moment I prefer to work on the use of arts, technology and participatory techniques to spark grass roots initiatives that deal with local problems, needs and goals. I have also worked in the area around Bahía de los Angeles, in Baja California, conducting interviews and surveys to gather local perspectives on industrial sardine fisheries and also conducting direct observations of sardine seiners´ fishing practices.I have as well collaborated with Enriqueta Velarde in her on going seabird ecology studies at Isla Rasa, in the Midriff Islands region. At the moment we are planning a short documentary on her life, work and achievements.
