Rafael de Grenade is an assistant research social scientist at the University of Arizona’s Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy working on transboundary water security in the arid Americas under the auspices of the International Water Security Network. She coordinates collaborative research and outreach projects on transboundary water policy issues in Mexico, Peru, Chile and Argentina. Her most recent research focuses on anticipatory capacity for food and water security, and the food-water-energy-earth systems security nexus in Peru.Rafael’s research, outreach, and teaching has focused on agrobiodiversity, climate adaptation, and food and water security in arid lands, specifically in the bi-national Sonoran Desert of the Southwest United States, Sonora and the Baja California peninsula, Mexico, and Peru.She has served as the director of the Tucson Oasis Initiative, a collaborative project among the UA College of Social and Behavioral Science, the UA College of Science, the City of Tucson, Pima County, and several regional nonprofit organizations. She also coordinated the UA Food Systems Network, led through the Colleges of Public Health, Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. She has worked through UNESCO-sponsored projects and traveled, worked, or conducted research in over thirty countries.
