About

I am an artist: part collector, part archivist, part archeologist, and part researcher. I find things, find out more about them, arrange, organize, display, and photograph them.My work is focused on the assemblage of boxes, frames and books using found things: man-made and natural objects, rust, old photographs, maps, and vintage papers: cast off and abandoned, waiting for the opportunity to tell their stories, effected by time, the elements, and memory. The source of much of my material is the local Sonoran desert, “littered” with piles of interesting cast-offs revealing patterns of history, culture, geography, social conventions. It takes decades, thousands, millions of years for this stuff to deteriorate, rot, rust and decompose, providing the finder with inspiration and reference. These middens, collections of artifacts and ecofacts, connect us with past human, animal and natural occupation. For the last few years, I have been collaborating with a group of artists (and poets) working on Tumamoc Hill, and was a contributor and designer of This Piece of Earth, Images and Words from Tumamoc Hill, published in late 2013. I have been making books, exhibit cases, monotypes and photographs using objects found near the Hill.
