Researchers

 I study how geological processes affect biological evolution. In particular, I’ve studied to what degree flooding regions of the Baja peninsula and rifting of the peninsula from mainland Mexico have generated the species and their distributions that we see today. I have also modeled how sea level change controls estuary formation and distribution through time, and the impact of this on genetic diversity of fishes in western North America. The ultimate goal of my work is to demonstrate how biological and geological studies complement each other and yield a more synthetic understanding of this region’s history.
