I work with migratory grassland birds that winter in the grasslands of the Chihuahuan and Sonoran Desert employing emerging technologies such as bird-tracking devices and drones to understand drivers of grassland bird declines across their life-cycle. I’ve coordinated and implemented research on grassland birds with various Mexican partners and have led Spanish language workshops on bird monitoring and identification. Our next steps are to initiate a cooperative network of automated radio telemetry stations (Motus) in the Chihuahuan Desert to better understand nonbreeding movements of grassland birds. I am also an artist who enjoys creating art inspired by nature, especially birds and the desert.
