Because of my interest on the impacts of tourism as globalization phenomena, I did a comparative study of the tourism based development models on two Sonoran localities: Rocky Point and San Carlos. Through secondary economic sources and direct interviews with key actors in the tourism sector, I could note the importance of local actors involvement to reach an stable development away of the dependency on exogenous factors. Realizing the elements of the tourism based development models can help this activity to become an integrative force in a region shared by two nations.
