About

I’m Assistant Professor at the Center for Genomic Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM-Campus Morelos) where I lead the research group of Paleogenomics and evolutionary studies of the past in Mesoamerica. I’m also affiliated to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History as a Research Associate. My research lines focus are:
– Agave Paleogenomics: Research on the human-agave relationship
– Molecular Systematics of the Agave genus
– Metagenomic characterization of archaeobotanical samples
– Reconstructing human population history in Mesoamerica through the study of ancient remains
– Paleogenomic study of sedimentary DNA and paleoecological reconstruction in the Chihuahuan Desert
– Selection and domestication of Microorganisms during the pulque fermentation process
I have been working in the fields of Genomics and Palaeogenomics – the study of ancient genomes – for over 10 years and would love to share my research, expertise and passion with the N-Gen Community, and I’m looking forward to building new collaborations while getting inspired by other projects, fields of study and ideas.
