About

I am a Mexican cave biologist currently doing my Ph.D. in Biology at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest, Hungary. Taxonomy, phylogeny, and biogeography of cave-dwelling fauna is my new approach.

Despite my new focus on cave biology, I have been working on bats since ten years ago. In Mexico, during my master I studied the environmental and biological factors on the faunal diversity in caves of the Sonoran Desert, highlighting bat’s diversity and their relevance for the underground ecosystem. Also, at the end of the master, I co-foundered the Sonoran Pioneer Speleological Group (G-PES, in Spanish) to continue the exploration and study of caves of Sonora, with a focus on their fauna, mainly on bat populations, because by protecting the bats, we conserved the subterranean habits.

My passion for cave fauna led me to communicate their importance in all ecosystems, being awarded and able to participate in several expeditions, volunteer programs, workshops and even filmed a short independent documentary.

Nowadays, I am looking to declare the caves of my master’s thesis as the first sanctuaries of bats in the Sonoran Desert.
