About

I am a researcher at the Instituto de Investigaciones Oceanológicas (IIO) at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC). My research interests include a wide range of topics concerning the ecology, biology and ecophysiology of submerged marine vegetation (seagrasses and seaweeds), including human and natural impacts, population dynamics, interactions with invasive species and the effects of climate change, such as temperature stress. The work of our Marine Botany Research Group (IIO-UABC), comprising enthusiastic researchers, technicians and students, is closely linked to submerged vegetation communities along the Baja California coastline. As well as enjoying the beauty of diving within kelp forests, we study the ecophysiological acclimation and adaptive capacities of seagrasses and seaweeds in changing environments, including photobiology and plant water relations, from the intertidal to the subtidal zones. Studies on seaweed cultivation are also among the main issues addressed by the research team.
