About

I started my biology studies in Mexico City, at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) surveying and analyzing the trade of wild birds in Mexico. After which, he obtained a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences at UNAM with a project that explored the relationship between human demographics, economic activities, and the conservation status of natural resources in Mexico. In 2005 he moved to Baja California, where he met Dr. Exequiel Ezcurra and started my PhD studies with a project that evaluated different aspects of the mangroves in the arid northwestern Mexico by using different methodologies and disciplines that ranged from GIS to qualitative research methodologies.Throughout his years in research, he realized the importance of integrating different kinds of knowledge and skills to envisage new paradigms that will ensure the conservation and sustainable use of Mexico’s natural resources. I am a research associate at the San Diego Natural History Museum, and together with Dr. Elisabet Wehncke, we are studying the ecological interactions and the conservation of the blue fan palm oases in the Central Desert region of the Baja California peninsula. Currently I am a visiting scholar at the Center for US Mexican studies at the University of California at San Diego.
