| About | I am Nemer E. Narchi (Environmental Anthropologist), and I serve as a Research Professor at the Center for Research in Human Geography within El Colegio de Michoacán, A.C. For the past 20 years, my work has been dedicated to marine ethnobiology and biocultural conservation. My research and teaching are deeply rooted in these fields, with a specific focus on local medicinal and food systems, as well as the pursuit of environmental justice. Current Initiatives and Vision My latest endeavor is the CoLaboratories of Social Oceanography, a multi-institutional initiative I founded to study the complex interactions between humans and the marine environment. We place a special emphasis on the cognitive, social, and cultural significance that environmental elements hold for diverse coastal communities. Our mission is to chart a course for fostering multivocality in maritime and coastal rights. We advocate for alternative development projects that ensure the fair inclusion of the knowledge, aspirations, and perspectives of local stakeholders. Critical Perspectives and Editorial Work I maintain a critical stance toward blue economies and capitalist coastal landscapes. Beyond my research, I am actively involved in the academic community through various editorial roles. I serve on the editorial boards of: Ethnobiología |
