A specialized conservationist with a master’s degree and doctorate in environmental sciences and natural resources, Nélida Barajas has worked in the management of ecosystems and wildlife with emphasis on water resources, river basins, ecosystem services, environmental education, protected areas, sustainable infrastructure in the field of hydroelectric plants, mechanisms financial resources for conservation and international affairs on the environment. He has also served as a program officer on freshwater resources in the World Wildlife Fund (2004 to 2007); project director and infrastructure specialist for The Nature Conservancy (2007 to 2014), and lead counselor on sustainable hydroelectric generation for the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) of Mexico (2014 to 2015), from 2015-2016 she coordinated of core issues for the UN Conference Meeting on Biodiversity (COP-13) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in collaboration with the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) and the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) of Mexico. During 2016-2017 she was the National Contract Monitoring Expert under the GEF-Project Implementation of Strategic Action Plan for the Gulf of Mexico Large Marine Ecosystem, currently providing services as international consultant on complex systems .Former member of the Climate Change Council in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Nélida is part of the Commission for the Management of Ecosystems of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) ,the National Academy of Environmental Education and member of the board of the Mexican Scout Association.
