I hold a PhD in Feminist Studies, specializing in cultural studies and decolonial theory with an emphasis on archival and aesthetic movements, from the University of California, Santa Cruz. My work as an independent curator and New York University brought me to Sonora in 2014. The Prescott College Kino Bay Center funded a collaborative curatorial project of the Pfister Collection of Ironwood carvings, Torote Baskets and jewelry, made by artists from the Comcaac community. Together with a team of co-curators, artists and translators from Desemboque and Punta Chueca, we designed two exhibitions and a catalog of the Pfister collection. This project, for me, incited further exploration into the political and social structures of representation, a focus that spans the critical research fields of contemporary art, development and market, museum studies, Natural History, Anthropology and social theory.
