About | Working at the intersection of rivers and oceans; nature and people; past and present. I have spent the last decade discerning how humans have changed habitats and how those habitats have changed species and how this affects cultures. The body of my work has been focused on how damming and diverting the Colorado River has changed the life history of endemic fish like Totoaba and Gulf Corvina, and how this can change the population structure. I use isotopes to reconstruct the living conditions of the upper Gulf from 5,000 years ago. These data have large ramifications for the conservation of the endangered Totoaba and the current fisheries of Corvina and Chano, as well as the protection of Colorado River instream flows for nature in the Colorado River Delta and Upper Gulf of California Estuary. |
