About

My first visit to Baja California and the territory to the south (now BCS) was in 1976. Born in Alta California in 1955 I traveled to México when I was 20 to take a NOLS.edu course for sea kayaking. It opened new doors for the rest of my life.

I started the first sea kayak tour business in Loreto in 1983, then in 1987 ran the first tourism-based mule-packing trip on the coast between Puerto Agua Verde and Los Dolores del Sur. And in 1988 followed in the hoof-steps of Timoteo Means and Baja Expeditions and began to operate mule trips to pinturas rupestres and archeological sites in the Sierra de San Francisco. I have ridden the length of the Baja California peninsula by mule-back, camping, …. twice!

My education has been “school of life” and operating small businesses in both the US and in México, all related to adventure/outdoor tourism in BCS. If I were to consider wanting a degree it would likely be in cultural anthropology related to rural lifestyle in BCS.

Published projects have been related to history and botany in BCS. Three short articles have been published in Journal del Pacifico. Also, please see LaRecua.com , and you may write to me to inquire about a book written and published in 2023 by Peter Marchand and me, Sierra de la Giganta: People and Plants.

I attended the 2024 N-Gen Summit to present the film, La Recua. This has led me to apply for membership on the N-Gen Board of Directors. and am now looking forward to help further the N-Gen vision. Mil Gracias!
