About

I am a documentary photographer and conservationist working primarily in aquatic and riparian areas in the desert southwest. The landscapes that sing to my soul are found in the high and low deserts of Arizona and Northern Mexico. I am a third generation Sonoran Desert dweller and spent my childhood outdoors exploring near my grandparents ranch in Sonoita, in the lowlands and mountains surrounding Tucson, and a large part of my soul and heart lives in Sonoran Desert. My work in international development and conservation has compelled me to share both hard truths and beauty to raise awareness of humanitarian and environmental issues close to my Arizona home and throughout the world. I create my images to serve as a platform for connection, empathy and change. My science background has given me the ability to communicate across disciplines and create art through photography that brings a deep understanding to the issues at hand. The images created from my documentation of the endangered fish program at Grand Canyon National Park have been used broadly (for Scientific American, Ranger Magazine, National Park Service) for outreach and education. I would love the opportunity to celebrate and share ongoing conservation projects in the Sonoran Desert through images. My approach is unique in that I create images that tie humans to landscapes, creating a sense of place. I want to encourage a connection to the physical land, to the unique ecology, to that which makes it distinct and mysterious and beautiful– places and resources that our human spirit cannot bear to live without.
