After careful consideration, we have decided to carry out the Border BioBlitz this year with a new model to allow people to safely document biodiversity in border communities. We have cancelled all nodes and group events, and instead invite people to take part individually in whatever way they can, either in expansive wilderness or from the safety of their homes.
We urge all participants to follow the guidelines of the WHO and local health authorities, as they are changing in real time. The safety of participants and their communities is and will always be our utmost priority.

We know the borderlands are a diverse and complex region. In some areas our borderlands are expansive, and in others they are reduced to a narrow strip through urban areas.
We are defining border communities as any county or municipality in the U.S. or Mexico adjacent to the international boundary. This broad definition will allow people to venture to safe, outdoor spaces and also to participate from their homes or neighborhoods in urban areas.

Not at all! We encourage people of all ages, professions, and experience levels to participate. All you need is a smartphone with the iNaturalist app. To learn more visit the tutorials section.
