Role of a boundary organization network for the Sonoran Desert region

We discussed the importance of boundary organizations that work across traditional boundaries between academy, government, NGOs and communities of users of natural resources to promote the use of the best scientific information to provide neutral and balanced expert opinions that go beyond any single sector or organization.

Tropical dry forest

The discussion began with a call for field guides to plants and herps for the Alamos region.  Several large themes grew from this point.  A need for basic documentation of biodiversity presents an opportunity to engage students and local non-science experts, especially indigenous groups.

Interplay Between Sonoran Desert Geology and Non-Geologic Processes

The distribution and patterns of several non-geologic processes are well documented within the Gulf of California and surrounding Sonoran Desert. Many of these processes are strongly controlled by the local or regional geology, but this relationship is not always examined.
