Omar Calva ha utilizado sensores de temperatura y humedad al interior de cuevas; el uso de bater\u00edas hace dif\u00edcil mantener un suministro de energ\u00eda. Charlie de la Rosa ha utilizado rastreadores con c\u00e1maras GoPro para seguir movimientos del ganado en su zona de estudio, y ha encontrado dificultades con la resistencia de los aparatos y la p\u00e9rdida de los mismos.<\/p>\n<p id=\"software\"><a href=\"#software\" name=\"software\"><\/a><strong>Software<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>El procesamiento de datos puede ser dif\u00edcil y laborioso, adem\u00e1s de que los costos del software especializado pueden ser muy altos. En este aspecto, el uso de software libre y el desarrollo de software y plataformas adecuados a las necesidades espec\u00edficas de N-Gen puede ser un aporte valioso. Uno de los participantes habl\u00f3 de su experiencia utilizando GPS Cloud, una plataforma de suscripci\u00f3n que permite almacenar, crear y compartir informaci\u00f3n de SIG en la nube. Ju\u00e1n Carlos Bravo agreg\u00f3 que se puede crear una plataforma similar de manera gratuita, lo cual permitir\u00eda no s\u00f3lo generar nueva informaci\u00f3n sino tambi\u00e9n compartirla, haciendo crecer el conocimiento. Ya existen algunas plataformas gratuitas y libres de SIG que pueden ser de gran utilidad para la comunidad N-Gen.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ciencia-ciudadana-y-*crowdsourcing*\"><a href=\"#ciencia-ciudadana-y-*crowdsourcing*\" name=\"ciencia-ciudadana-y-*crowdsourcing*\"><\/a><strong>Ciencia ciudadana y <em>crowdsourcing<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La ciencia ciudadana y el <em>crowdsourcing<\/em> ofrecen grandes oportunidades para la generaci\u00f3n de nueva informaci\u00f3n y para el procesamiento de grandes bases de datos. Juan Carlos Bravo habl\u00f3 del modelo de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.galaxyzoo.org\/\">GalaxyZoo<\/a>, en el cual los usuarios contribuyen a la clasificaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes de galaxias y, en caso de encontrar algo particularmente interesante o irregular, pueden aparecer como co-autores en las publicaciones. Este modelo podr\u00eda aplicarse, por ejemplo, a la identificaci\u00f3n de individuos de jaguar u otras especies fotografiados por c\u00e1maras trampa; en estos casos, muchas veces hay bases de datos de cientos o miles de fotos que no puede procesar un s\u00f3lo equipo de trabajo. Una participante agreg\u00f3 que es necesario fomentar la participaci\u00f3n de los estudiantes en los proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n. Las plataformas de <em>crowdsourcing<\/em> para el procesamiento de datos puede ser una buena manera de lograrlo. Asimismo, se hablo de fomentar la participaci\u00f3n de N-Gen dentro de plataformas ya existentes de ciencia ciudadana, como <a href=\"naturalista.conabio.gob.mx\/\">Naturalista<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"infraestructura\"><a href=\"#infraestructura\" name=\"infraestructura\"><\/a><strong>Infraestructura<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carolyn O\u2019Meara apunt\u00f3 que gran parte de los desarrollos posibles mediante el <em>hacking<\/em> dependen de la conectividad a internet, la cu\u00e1l no est\u00e1 disponible en muchas comunidades. Uno de los retos ser\u00eda generar infraestructura aut\u00f3noma para que haya conectividad en comunidades aisladas. Ya se ha hecho en algunas\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/archivo.eluniversal.com.mx\/finanzas-cartera\/2013\/impreso\/pueblo-en-oaxaca-crea-red-de-telefonia-celular-104462.html\">comunidades de Oaxaca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"lineamientos-para-la-colaboraci\u00f3n\"><a href=\"#lineamientos-para-la-colaboraci\u00f3n\" name=\"lineamientos-para-la-colaboraci\u00f3n\"><\/a><strong>Lineamientos para la colaboraci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carolyn tambi\u00e9n habl\u00f3 de un proyecto ling\u00fc\u00edstico en la comunidad Comc\u00e1ac que tuvo mucho \u00e9xito entre los participantes. Sin embargo, se detuvo por el recelo de los investigadores a que los videos generados en el proyecto estuvieran disponibles en internet. Juan Carlos Bravo sugiri\u00f3 como sede Hermosillo con el posible apoyo de <a href=\"http:\/\/nearsoft.com\">Nearsoft<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Generar art\u00edculos de m\u00e9todos que puedan usar otrxs investigadorxs para implementar nuevas tecnolog\u00edas.<\/li>\n<li>Generar un manifiesto o c\u00f3digo de \u00e9tica para el desarrollo de nuevas tecnolog\u00edas y manejo de la informaci\u00f3n dentro del marco de N-Gen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"desert-hackathon\"><a href=\"#desert-hackathon\" name=\"desert-hackathon\"><\/a><strong>Desert Hackathon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"session-objectives\"><strong><a href=\"#session-objectives\" name=\"session-objectives\"><\/a>Session objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-Introduce the possibilities of low cost, free, and open source hardware and software development.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evaluate our technological needs.<\/li>\n<li>Propose technological developments compatible with natural systems and the needs of the N-Gen community.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a future N-Gen hackathon for the development of free technology projects.\n<ul>\n<li>Hackathon: meeting for the collective development of software or devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"session-summary\"><a href=\"#session-summary\" name=\"session-summary\"><\/a><strong>Session summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The session began with a short, general presentation (available as hackathon.pdf ) on free technology and its potential.<\/li>\n<li>After the presentation, an open forum began in which participants\u2019 needs were evaluated and next steps were discussed.<\/li>\n<li>The following topics were covered:\n<ul>\n<li>Hardware<\/li>\n<li>Software<\/li>\n<li>Citizen Science and crowdsourcing<\/li>\n<li>Infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Guidelines for collaboration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"hardware\"><a href=\"#hardware\" name=\"hardware\"><\/a><strong>Hardware<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some participants already had experience with the implementation of new technologies into their projects and have faced different challenges in its implementation. Juan Carlos Bravo added that you can create a similar platform for free, which would not only generate new information but also allow for sharing information, helping knowledge grow There are already some free and open source GIS platforms that can be of great use to the N-Gen community.<\/p>\n<p id=\"citizen-science-and-crowdsourcing\"><a href=\"#citizen-science-and-crowdsourcing\" name=\"citizen-science-and-crowdsourcing\"><\/a><strong>Citizen science and crowdsourcing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Citizen science and crowdsourcing offer great opportunities for the generation of new information and for the processing of large databases. Juan Carlos Bravo discussed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.galaxyzoo.org\/\">GalaxyZoo<\/a> model, in which users contribute to the classification of images of galaxies and, in case one finds something particularly interesting or irregular, they may appear as co-authors in publications. This model could be useful, for example, in identifying individuals of jaguars or other species photographed by camera traps. In these cases, there are often databases of hundreds or thousands of photos that cannot be processed by a single team. One participant added that it is necessary to encourage student participation in research projects. Crowdsourcing platforms for data processing can be a good way to increase student participation. Also, N-Gen participation in existing citizen science platforms such as <a href=\"http:\/\/naturalista.conabio.gob.mx\/\">Naturalista<\/a> was encouraged.<\/p>\n<p id=\"infrastructure\"><a href=\"#infrastructure\" name=\"infrastructure\"><\/a><strong>Infrastructure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carolyn O\u2019Meara added that many of the developments made possible by hacking depend on internet connectivity, which is not available in many communities. One of the challenges would be to generate autonomous infrastructure so that there is connectivity in isolated areas. This has already been done in some<a href=\"http:\/\/archivo.eluniversal.com.mx\/finanzas-cartera\/2013\/impreso\/pueblo-en-oaxaca-crea-red-de-telefonia-celular-104462.html\">communities in Oaxaca<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"guidelines-for-collaboration\"><a href=\"#guidelines-for-collaboration\" name=\"guidelines-for-collaboration\"><\/a><strong>Guidelines for collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Carolyn also spoke of a linguistic community project in a Comc\u00e1ac community which was very successful among participants. However, the project was stopped by the reluctance of researches to make the videos generated in the project available online. In the group there was a consensus that we need to share and collaborate for the advancement of science, while carefully handling sensitive data and establishing guidelines that ensure the equitable use of information within a reciprocal relationship.
