The future of the Gulf of California is being shaped right now. At a time marked by growing pressure on ecosystems and communities, along with many, yet disparate science and conservation actions, the need for collective action has never been greater.

Focused on the land-sea interfaces of the Gulf of California and Pacific coast of Baja California, the Desert Seas Summit (Cumbre Mares del Desierto) offers a space to rethink, across disciplines, borders, and ways of knowing, how science and conservation are practiced from land to sea.

More than 20 years after the last major gathering of the Gulf of California scientific community, this Summit marks a historic return. For the first time in two decades, researchers, local communities, civil society organizations, artists and partners from across the region will come together to explore bottom-up approaches, forge new alliances, and imagine innovative economic and funding models capable of sustaining conservation into the future.
