About

I am a naturalist and writer with a focus on the Sky Islands of southern Arizona. I am a member of the Botany Department of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and am on the board of the Arizona Native Plant Society. I am currently working on a specimen-based Flora of the Atascosa Highlands of southern Arizona, which is part of a larger visual storytelling project titled ‘Atascosa borderlands” that uses floristic survey, oral history interviews, archivization of historical images and documents, and contemporary photography to trace the land uses that have influenced the ecology of the Atascosa Highlands. I am also completing a book about gardening with native species called “The Southwest Native Plant Primer,” which will be published by Timber Press in 2025. I have been a contributor to pieces for Arizona Public Media, the Plant Press Arizona, Butterfly Gardener Magazine, High Country News, and Emergence Magazine.
