About

I hold a B.Sc. in Marine Biology, a M.Sc. in Conservation of Natural Resources, and a PhD. in Fisheries and Wildlife Management with emphasis in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology by the University of Arizona. I have over 20 years of experience on the field of wildlife genetics and 10 years of experience in genomics in a broad range of species, from microorganisms to plants, invertebrates, fish, reptiles, birds and mammals, mainly marine but also terrestrial, including critically endangered species like the Vaquita and the Peninsular and Sonoran pronghorn. My research is focused on the use of genetic and genomic tools to describe, manage and conserve biodiversity in the context of human impacts. I am the founder and director of a research lab (@ Lab Applied Genomics). I am a research scientist at the University of Arizona in Tucson, a National Geographic Explorer, and an expert on marine connectivity, particularly in the merging of population genomics with three-dimensional modeling of ocean currents to understand patterns of larval dispersal. I have conducted over 400 dives in the ocean. I have been doing research in the emerging field of environmental DNA (eDNA) since 2016.
