N-Gen members who live in Mexico City (far, far away from the Sonoran Desert) occasionally meet as part of the Mexico City chapter. Due to the customary centralization of political power in Mexico and the often oversight of the arid north, the chapter plays a fundamental role in linking N-Gen with Mexican federal authorities and uniting those of us far from our field sites. There are various institutions represented in the Mexico City chapters, with members whose affiliations include the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana–Xochimilco, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, among others.
We do not have a regular meeting place as of yet, but encourage chapter members to propose meetings and even small get togethers to promote activity among N-Gen members in Mexico City. Some of the chapter members are also active in the up-and-coming research seminar focused on arid zones, which is lead by the chapter leaders. We meet once a month to talk about a range of topics related to arid zones in Mexico, not just the Sonoran Desert.
